The Powamps.
The "Maintenance Bay" is a large room located within Sector 4 (AQA), appearing in Metroid Fusion. It is positioned directly underneath the main Recharge and Save Rooms of Sector 4.
Description[]
Samus can enter this room as early as accessing the main hall. During this first visit, the water will be electrified (as Adam warned earlier) so Samus is both limited in her mobility and takes continuous damage when submerged. In the center of the room, Powamps inside Morph Ball tunnels block access to the other side of the room. Samus can enter the room left of the Maintenance Bay (the Maintenance Tunnel), but the water will continue to electrify and damage her.
Once Samus activates the Pump Control Unit, the water in this room and the left tunnel room adjacent to it will be drained, allowing for further exploration and the early acquisition of two Missile Expansions should Samus wish to explore before moving on to her next mission objective. The room will no longer be flooded or electrified but the Powamps inside the center column will remain in place.
Samus enters this room during her long escape out of Sector 5 after obtaining the Gravity Suit. Samus enters the room from the right side, through a Level 4 security door she managed to unlock earlier. Although the Powamps prevent her from reaching the opposite side, she can move towards the area directly under the top-right Red Hatch, which is another Red Hatch leading to the Data Room containing the previously sent Diffusion Missile upgrade. Once downloaded, Samus can use the Diffusion Missiles on the Powamps in this room to return to the Navigation Room in Sector 4.
This room reuses the backdrop from the tall shaft of the Docking Bays, suggesting heavy operations were done within this room for Sector 4.
Glitch[]
The Japanese version's layout of the room.
This room contains a glitch in non-Japanese versions of Metroid Fusion, directly before obtaining the Diffusion Missiles. If Samus uses the Space Jump underneath the platform on the right side, aims diagonally downward, moves left and immediately fires an Ice Missile, the blast may reach the lowest retracted Powamp, allowing Samus to skip the Diffusion Missile upgrade and also reach the Navigation Room early, thereby gaining access to the Secret Message without having to use the difficult Shinespark.[1]
The Japanese version of this room has a slight alternate layout in the center area and therefore makes this glitch impossible to perform. The left side tower of three platforms only has two and the positioning of the column is slightly relocated and altered. The middle Morph Ball tunnel in the center column was removed and the other two tunnels were slightly repositioned with its two Powamps as well.
