An Acid Sac, also known as a Shell of Acidic Fluid,[1] is an object exclusively seen on Aether.
Description[]
An Acid Sac has the appearance of green oval bearing a dark bottom piece slightly wrapped around the end in a root-like design, the overall shape of the shell resembling a fruit or egg. These fragile objects, once destroyed, release a highly acidic fluid from within (hence the name). The acid does not harm Samus when they are destroyed at point-blank range, though it should be noted that Samus was utilizing the Varia Suit during her exploration on Aether; this would grant her protection from such acid.
Acid Sacs appear as general minor objects sprouting from walls. A cluster of Acid Sacs can be seen in Hive Chamber B, blocking one escape tunnel while surrounding a second sealed tunnel. More notably, Acid Sacs are seen paired up with Luminoth Webbing, where a single shell is stationed within the center of the large webbing. This biology pair is the first obstacle encountered by Samus upon arrival to Aether. When a shell enclosed inside a Luminoth Webbing is destroyed, the released acid will dissolve the surrounding webbing, removing the entire obstacle in Samus's path. Not all Luminoth Webbing carry Acid Sacs, making the webbing appear impossible to remove.
The only time Acid Sacs are scannable is when paired up with a Luminoth Webbing. Their scan suggests they were created by local Splinter groups, which explains their appearance within the Splinter Hive and surrounding areas of the Temple Grounds. None were ever spotted on Dark Aether, making it unknown if a dark counterpart of these shells ever existed.
Scans[]
- "Object scan complete.
Object contains large quantity of acidic fluid.
Fluids may be used by indigenous bioforms for digestive purposes. Shell is vulnerable to weapon fire."
Trivia[]
- The first Acid Sac encountered in the Landing Site is immune to all but the Power Beam and Missiles.
- The second and third Luminoth Webbing can be removed without damaging the shell, causing a glitch that makes the Acid Sac float. The webbing will respawn when the room is reloaded unless the shell is destroyed. The shell is invulnerable to weapons fire aimed at its rooted backside.
- Acid Sacs are similar in appearance, name, and function to Sap Sacs from Metroid Prime.
