Samus is engulfed by the disruptor field

Samus is engulfed by the disruptor field

The Aeion Ability disruptor field[1] , or Aeion disruptor field[2] is an attack used by the Autoad in Metroid: Samus Returns. If Samus is too close to an Autoad, it will begin to charge up a circular electromagnetic blast. Upon contact with the blast, it drains Samus's Aeion Gauge and dampens her Aeion Abilities for between five to ten seconds, at which point the effect wears off. Coupled with their strong armor, the disruptor field makes the Autoad one of the hardest enemies in later areas of SR388, as the Beam Burst (an Aeion Ability) is the most effective way to destroy them.

The disruptor field's dampening ability is similar to the EMP grenade and Rezbit Virus attacks used against Samus in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The Metroid: Samus Returns Official Guide implies that Autoads were created to disrupt Aeion users, and questions whether they were meant to attack intruders, or other Chozo on sight.[1]
