Akintunde "Akin" Omitowoju is a Nigerian software engineer. At Retro Studios, he engineered Metroid Prime, and then moved to Japan in 2003[1] to work more closely with Nintendo. Thus, he did not engineer Metroid Prime 2: Echoes or Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. He did engineer Theta, a Japan-only game for the Nintendo DS. In 2008, Omitowoju returned to Retro Studios to engineer their Donkey Kong Country games and Mario Kart 7. [2] [3] He left Retro Studios again in 2014 and is now the Senior Engineer at 17-BIT, Inc. in Japan.
Metroid Prime[]
In the start of development on Metroid Prime, Omitowoju created a rudimentary particle system and weapons, and later took over on the artificial intelligence side.[4] Later on in production, he voiced the Space Pirates in Metroid Prime. Clark Wen recorded Omitowoju screaming curses in Yoruba, which he then heavily processed into the vocalizations made by the Pirates.[5]
