The animus (意思 Ishi )[1] is a character featured at the very end of Metroid EX.
Description[]
A spirit speaking in Early Modern English,[1] it controls the monstrous power sealed within the galactic ruins of an unknown civilization, which can reset the universe. The animus gives anyone who accesses the power a final choice between the past and the future, although it accepts the present as the correct choice.
Biography[]
The animus is encountered when Greed, the leader of the Greed Corps, uses Samus Aran to open the door to the power. The animus communicates with Samus during this process, making her the only being who can challenge Greed. Greed meets the animus and chooses the future, only to be violently consumed by the power. The animus prepares to destroy the universe until Samus points out that she has not made her choice. Samus chooses the present. The animus then produces a white light that will restore balance to the cosmos. Samus touches it, and the black hole is no more, saving the universe.
