Metroid Prime Remastered! This was an unexpected and rare opportunity from a team down in Orlando, FL. I'm happy to have worked with them. I still can't believe it. I joined right after my time at Vicarious Visions-Activision Blizzard, after we shipped the THPS1+2 remaster. This was also remote, but I was more than happy to visit Orlando, FL, and meet some of the members at GameSim there. This was rare for me to even think about it because I know it wouldn't have happened if I wasn't at Vicarious Visions. I can't thank them enough, both GameSim and Liquid, and I'm glad to see that GameSim's also growing. |

Anthony Garcellano is an American Environment Artist. He designed environments for Metroid Prime Remastered while on a year-long contract at GameSim Inc., a developer to which Retro Studios outsourced design work. He is now the Senior Environment Artist at inXile entertainment.
Garcellano previously worked on visual effects in the film industry, on such films as The Smurfs (and its sequel), The Amazing Spider-Man (and its sequel), Oz the Great and Powerful, and Man of Steel.
Metroid Prime Remastered[]
Garcellano had played the original game when it was released back in 2002, and again a few years prior to Remastered, alongside its two sequels.[4]
Garcellano finished his work on Remastered around mid-2021, a year and a half before its release. This meant that he could not discuss it when interviewing for his new job at inXile Entertainment. Garcellano, who worked remotely on Remastered, was provided with core assets from Retro Studios, which he would "bend" to fit around the original game. Rooms Garcellano worked on include the Frigate Crash Site (access tunnel), Tallon Canyon, Furnace, Chapel of the Elders, Research Entrance, Ruined Courtyard, Gravity Chamber, Phendrana's Edge, and multiple transition tunnels. He would also some quality assurance on certain rooms. Garcellano purchased a Wii U so he could play Metroid Prime Trilogy on it and get reacquainted with the series. He hoped that GameSim would also be working on remasters of Echoes and Corruption.[5]
Garcellano gave an interview to Kiwi Talkz, which was released on February 28, 2023.[6] However, it was taken down the next day, presumably due to legal intervention from Nintendo. It is unknown if the episode will be re-published at a later date. Among things discussed were the refining of collision detection in Remastered, having to wait to put the game on his resume, the rooms he designed, and his work in the film industry.[7]

The original one came out in 2002. I played it way back then, and played it again a few years ago, along with Echoes and Corruption. I was more familiar with the first one growing up.
Looking at it through a different perspective, working with an external studio, that has to be one of GameSim’s best projects that they’ve ever worked on. I’m happy to have been there during that journey and hope to see them work on several more AAA titles (They also worked on the Dead Space Remake that came out before Metroid Prime Remastered.)"
