Area 4[1] is a theme from Metroid: Samus Returns. It was composed by Daisuke Matsuoka.
Description
Area 4, as its name implies, can be heard in the first half of Area 4, a system of crystal mining caves where Samus Aran acquires the Spazer Beam and hunts down a single Gamma Metroid. It is a very atmospheric, mystical track with a few minimalist melodic patterns repeated throughout. Area 4 can be heard here: [1]
Area 4 may be based upon the ambient track originally played in Phase 5 and Phase 7 in Metroid II: Return of Samus. This theme, originally composed by Ryoji Yoshitomi, has some similar note patterns to Area 4. Since Phase 5 corresponds directly to the first half of Area 4, this may have been a deliberate reference by Daisuke Matsuoka, although this is not confirmed. Trivia
- In the internal files, this track is called Area6 Basic. However, this theme does not play at all in Area 6.
