Metroid Samus Returns Boxart

Area 8[1] is a theme from Metroid: Samus Returns. It was composed by Daisuke Matsuoka and based upon a melody written by Ryoji Yoshitomi. In the internal files, the theme is called Area Tension.

DescriptionEdit

Area 8, as its name implies, can be heard in Area 8. It plays in the lower tunnels flooded with yellow liquid, starting with the liquid-filled hall, as they wind upward to the Metroid nest in the caverns above.

Area 8 is a very dark and sinister track, with heavy distortion that invokes tension and unease. It largely consists of a four-note pattern repeated over and over, accompanied by droning ambience and high-pitched harmonies, before finally playing a different melody near the end. Area 8 can be heard here: [1]

The melody heard at the end of the track is based directly upon the title theme of Metroid II: Return of Samus. This melody is a recurring theme in the Samus Returns soundtrack, and is also heard remixed in Area Indefinite and the Staff Credit theme. The original title theme can be heard here: [2]

TriviaEdit

  • The repeated four-note pattern in Area 8 is very similar to the theme of the Doomseye, although it is unconfirmed if there is any intended connection.
