The "Artaria entrance" is the first room in Artaria, and by extension, Metroid Dread.

Description[]

This room is set within a deep cave, but has had a Chozo monument constructed in it. This monument contains an elevator leading up to Hanubia, with the elevator shaft visible through multiple areas of ZDR.[1] A long bridge spans a large basin of water, although there are noticeable cracks in the bridge, indicating it is not structurally sound. Large Chozo Soldier statues are present on either side of the bridge, as well as trees with pink leaves resembling cherry blossoms. In gameplay, this area is in the background, with the foreground consisting of a stone walkway with a round center. A series of ledges leads up to a Charge Beam Door on the left, while the right features an opening that goes into the caves of Artaria.

Later, after water is drained into other areas of Artaria, three thin streams of water begin to pour into the basin from the background, raising the water to about the level of the in-game walkway. The source of this water is a room in Artaria's E.M.M.I. Zone, where Samus must stand on a platform to flood water underneath a platform in order to raise it, therefore allowing her to access a slope and escape. This room is directly above the Artaria entrance. If the water-raising platform is skipped via a single Wall Jump glitch, the entrance will not flood, but the sound of falling water can still be heard.[2]

Much later, Artaria freezes over after thermal energy from Cataris is cut off. The leftmost door into the entrance room, and the path to it from the right side are both blocked by indestructible ice, making it inaccessible until the obstruction is dealt with. After the planet's temperature returns to normal, the room can be accessed again.

Role[]

Samus awakens on the floor in a weakened state, with her Power Suit's capabilities reset to its default form. Observing the destroyed elevator, she remembers what happened, commencing a flashback.

Raven Beak Intro Battle 3

Samus confronting the Chozo.

Entering an elevator in Hanubia, Samus descends to Artaria at the very bottom of ZDR. Almost immediately upon entering this room, she spots a mysterious figure, which appears to be a Chozo, waiting for her on the bridge. After a brief standoff, they fire a blast, which Samus Slides under. The blast hits the door to the elevator, destroying it and preventing it from being used to leave. Another attack by the Chozo causes the bridge to crack, and then collapse, but Samus Spin Jumps off of it before falling into the abyss.

Samus attacks the Chozo, but does little damage until she strikes them in the eye with a Super Missile, cracking their helmet. Infuriated, the Chozo rushes at Samus and grabs her by the neck. As she struggles, the Chozo charges a blast at her and utters a phrase in its native language.

Hadar sen olmen.

—Chozo

Appearing to be unnerved by the words, Samus reaches for the Chozo instinctively, but loses consciousness shortly after her body is overtaken by a purple energy force.

After coming to, Samus stands up and examines her left hand, in which she feels a lingering sensation. Her mission then begins.

Samus monologue[]

Note: This monologue appears on the Japanese Dread website and is not heard in-game.

...Where am I? Why am I lying on the ground? With my mind still hazy, my eyes meet with some kind of monument. And then...

Memories from before I lost consciousness start to resurface.

Shortly after reaching the depths of Planet ZDR, they appeared in front of me. Standing in my way with an extraordinary intimidating presence, this mysterious Chozo fired a highly powerful beam at me without hesitation.

They attacked with a speed and agility that didn't match their sheer size. The aura enveloping their body absorbed all of my attacks. For a brief instant, I thought I saw an opening and an opportunity to attack, but in a split second they closed the distance between us and effortlessly grabbed me.

With no escape in sight, I braced for the final blow. As their beam was charging, they uttered the following words.

"HADAR SEN OLMEN"

I know what these words mean...

As my consciousness began to fade, I could feel something strange arising within my body. And just as this boiling sensation reached its peak, my memories ended there.

...Well, I am certainly alive now. I wonder why this mysterious Chozo left me alone and disappeared. I also noticed that my equipment has reverted to its initial state.

What was that thing that happened to my body back then? And...

What is this strange sensation that lingers in my left hand?

There's no time to think. I should hurry and leave this place...

After the X Parasites are released from Elun, the Muzby's X will turn into a Klaida after being killed.

Trivia[]

  • Raven Beak's damage to the monument in this room causes a crack in the right eye of the Chozo figure. It mirrors the scar Samus leaves over Raven Beak's right eye when she hits it with a Super Missile.[4]
