The Backward Throw[1] (後ろ投げ )[2] is a throwing attack in the Super Smash Bros. series, used by every character. It is performed by pressing in the opposite direction from which the fighter is facing, on the control stick after the fighter Grabs an opponent. Most Backward Throws have good knockback, but are not recommended for use in combos.
Unlike Downward and Upward Throws, Forward and Backward Throws have existed since the first Super Smash Bros. game.
Samus Aran's Backward Throw is named the Reverse Beam Throw[3] (グラップリングバックスルー grappling back throw )[2]. Samus, who is holding onto her grabbed opponent with the Grapple Beam, throws them behind her. It has high power and can be used after a fully charged Charge Shot or a Down Air Attack. It deals 18% (Super Smash Bros.), 6% (Melee) or 8 (Super Smash Bros. Brawl and 4) base damage. Dark Samus shares her Backward Throw as Samus as Samus's Echo Fighter.
Zero Suit Samus's Backward Throw is very weak. She grabs her opponent with the Plasma Whip of her Paralyzer, positions them behind her and kicks them. It deals 6% base damage with two hits. The attack is weak and lacks options for follow-up attacks, and cannot KO fighters even in Sudden Death mode.
Ridley's Backward Throw is an underhanded toss with a single arm.
