Barracks Access is a small, curved room connecting Transit Hub and Steambot Barracks in SkyTown, the floating city in the sky of planet Elysia. It appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Description[]

The room's main feature is a red laser security grid that pans between a small lower level in the room. It was installed to prevent intruders from moving further into the SkyTown facility. The four small laser beams that are stacked on top of each other are projected out of slotted grooves in the wall. The eight beams move forwards and backwards through the room in parallel to each other, and the lasers cast a red hue over the whole room. Contact with the lasers will severely damage life forms.

The north ledge of the lower level has a small alcove inside, containing a Missile Expansion. Small circular panels that glow a bright green are placed decoratively around the room to contrast with the red of the security lasers. Some of these panels rotate in the walls. Also placed at the Transit Hub entrance are holographic projectors that can receive transmissions. When Samus first enters, an image of Ghor is displayed. After restoring Aurora Unit 217, its image is displayed instead. Odd gear and wheel designs and patterns are also situated on the walls and ceiling.

Development notes[]

The room's internal name is 0y02_skytown_beamhazard, referencing the laser security grid guarding the room. The keyword skytown indicates Skytown, Elysia, and the prefix 0y02 indicates that this is the second of 22 pod corridors throughout the planet.

Trivia[]

  • Due to the location of the Missile Expansion, it may be missed upon the first entry of the room, but discovered later upon returning to the room.
