The "bartender" and "Cupcake" are two unnamed characters that appear only in the first chapter of Metroid EX. The former is the proprietor of the saloon in Brigandia, Outlaw, while the latter is a waitress at the location. "Cupcake" is a derogatory nickname given to her by a member of the Greed Corps.
Biography[]
When Samus Aran, Joey Apronika and Diesel land in Brigandia, the waitress is seen in distress as two Greed Corps members demand another drink from her. The bartender protests, only to be shot at by the gleeful outlaws, who discuss the supposed death of Samus. Joey appears in Western-themed garb, claiming to be Samus, and reflects bullets from the outlaws with his Field Knuckle. Unfortunately, they ricochet from his knuckle towards the bartender and waitress. However, the real Samus shoots down the bullets from outside the saloon.

Saying that Joey got carried away, she urges him to apologize to the bartender instead of her for the resulting property damage. The bartender asks Samus if it is true that she lost in a battle to Greed, and she regretfully confirms the rumor. He breaks down in momentary panic about the state of life in Brigandia, and is reassured by "Cupcake" that Samus is still up to the task of defeating the brigands. Notably, she refers to Samus as "Mr. Samus", showing that Samus's true identity is unknown to many denizens of the cosmos. They remain inside the saloon while Samus confronts Zameel, one of the Deadly Six Stars, outside. After Zameel's defeat, they are seen among the crowd of Brigandia's citizens cheering on Samus and Joey, and bidding them farewell.
Physical appearance[]

The bartender appears to be middle-aged, with dark hair and a mustache. His hair is shaped similarly to Wolverine, and he wears a vest over a short-sleeved shirt. Conversely, the waitress is younger. She wears a necklace and sports bra, with an open shirt covering her shoulders, a skirt and heels. "Cupcake's" hairstyle strongly resembles what would become Zero Suit Samus's, from Metroid: Zero Mission onward.
