Bookmark

A Bookmark, Map Pin or Marker, is a Map feature in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. It takes on a different appearance and function in each game, and is used to mark a room so it can be revisited for any reason, such as to return for an item that cannot be acquired the first time it is found due to lacking the necessary upgrade.

Individual rooms in the Map can be bookmarked. To do so, a room must be selected in the map. A bookmark prompt will then appear, which will color the room's map hologram green. These Bookmarks can be removed at any time, but do not appear on the minimap. This feature is not mentioned in any tutorials or the game's manual or strategy guide, so only the most observant will know to use this feature.

Metroid: Samus Returns

Map Pins in Samus Returns.

In Samus Returns, Map Pins can be placed over rooms in the map. These appear as upside down triangles. Up to ten different pins (colored red, yellow, green, blue and purple) can be set on the map at once. Pressing on a set pin, and dragging it to the bottom of the screen, or over the trash bin button will remove it from the map and allow it to be used elsewhere later, if desired.

Metroid Dread

Markers in Dread.

In Dread, markers function much the same as in Samus Returns. Up to six pins (colored red, green, yellow, purple and cyan) can be set on the map at once.

"Grab a pin from the bottom of the screen and drag it to a location of interest on the map. Drag a placed pin back to the bottom of the screen to delete it."

Map pins

"Drag pins [Map Pin symbol] onto the map to mark points of interest.

You can place up to ten pins.

Slide a pin to the bottom of the screen to remove it.

Touch [trash icon] to remove all pins at once.

MAP PINS

"If something in an area grabs your attention, pause the game, hit the pencil icon on the bottom of the bottom screen, then drag one of the multi-colored pins to that location as a reminder for later."

MAP MARKERS
Press [A] on the Map screen to place a marker. These markers will also be displayed on your minimap, which can be helpful while exploring.
