A Breakable Organic Block[1] is a recurring, destructible obstacle in Metroid Dread.
It is a pink blob of alien matter embedded into walls, where it appears through a crack. Despite its unique pustule-like appearance, it functionally acts as a new type of block, hence its texture name. When shot with one to three uncharged Beam shots, or one to two Charge Shots, the matter gradually becomes more visible, before exploding and destroying adjacent unbreakable blocks. The explosion usually unveils a new path forward, while sometimes blocking off other paths as the room collapses. Later instances of Breakable Organic Blocks are surrounded by other indestructible blocks and require the Diffusion Beam or Wave Beam to destroy them, such as in the room where the Diffusion Beam is acquired after beating Kraid.

Artaria[]
- "Initial cave" - one block obstructs the path leading up into the ceiling, on the rightmost side of the room.
- "Arbitrary Enky room" - two blocks guard a Missile Tank and one of two entrances to the E.M.M.I. Zone.
Cataris[]
- "Diffusion chamber" - one block obstructs the exit.
Burenia[]
- "Transport to Ghavoran" - one block obstructs access to the Elevator in this chamber. It is located on the side of a tunnel that emerges from underneath "Drogyga's domain". With the Pseudo Wave Beam glitch, Samus can destroy the block from the other side and therefore skip Drogyga entirely.
Ferenia[]
- "Flooded Sanctuary" - one block separates the upper level from the lower, flooded portion. It can be destroyed from the latter side to remove the floor.
- "Niche 1" - one block guards a Missile Tank.
- "Ferenia E.M.M.I. confrontation room" - three blocks impede Samus's progression, including after she obtains the Omega Cannon and is being chased by E.M.M.I.-06WB.
- "Ferenia E.M.M.I. Zone exit" - the upper floor has one block guarding the exit from the E.M.M.I. Zone. It must be destroyed with the newly acquired Wave Beam.
Trivia[]
- It is also possible to destroy Breakable Organic Blocks with the Pseudo Wave Beam glitch, allowing for Sequence Breaking.
