Bruce Hunt is an Australian film director and producer. Hunt directed "Parasite", the live-action commercial for Metroid Fusion. He was also the Second and Third Unit Director for Dark City and the first three installments of The Matrix franchise.
Hunt was interviewed by Shinesparkers regarding the Parasite commercial in 2023.
Career[]
Hunt's interest in filmmaking began when he read a magazine on the making of Star Wars at the age of 13. He was always passionate about model spaceships and design. He went to art and design school, and found a job at a computer animation studio. It was there that Hunt discovered he wanted to become a director, inspired by the work of Alien series directors Ridley Scott and James Cameron. Before Hunt was assigned to direct Parasite, he directed other commercials for Nintendo franchises through Leo Burnett, including the Nintendo 64 color consoles, Super Mario Kart and Excitebike 64.[1]
Parasite[]
Nintendo approached Hunt to direct Parasite, and he jumped at the chance, knowing that Alex Proyas was directing the Prime Evil commercial for Metroid Prime. While the crew was limited to filming a 30 second commercial, they filmed additional shots for a director's cut, which Hunt shared with Shinesparkers for the first time in 2023. Hunt worked with long-time collaborators Phil Shearer and Ross Emery to build the Metroid Fusion Bio-Lab set in the White Bay Power Station. Nintendo provided him with storyboards, artwork and suit designs from Metroid Fusion, although they did not otherwise share many story details with him.[1]
Other work[]
In 2008, Hunt joined the international production company Revolver.[2] His other directed works include the 2003 Visa commercial featuring Sofía Vergara as Lara Croft (for whom Melanie Peyton-Smith was a stunt double),[1] "Snakebite" for Toyota and "Reconstruction" for TAC.[2] He is currently writing and developing a series based on a war story, another on futuristic car racing, and a graphic novel.[1]
