Burenia (バルエニア ) is the fourth area of ZDR in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
Burenia is a marine research site built around an ocean, with many windows looking out into the marine ecosystem. The area's lower half has been engulfed in water, although it is uncertain whether this is by design or due to neglect. Burenia is home to many aquatic species that are found nowhere else on ZDR, such as Batalloon, Omnithon, and Sakai.
Burenia is connected to Dairon via two Shuttles: one above the water's surface, and the other below, with the latter passing through a porthole keeping the ocean water out of the Shuttle station. Additionally, Burenia is connected to Artaria and Ghavoran via Elevator, and also links to Ghavoran and Ferenia via Teleportal.
Samus Aran first visits this area to acquire the Flash Shift Item Cube, then travels and reaches the lower-left section of Dairon containing that area's Central Unit. Similar to Artaria, there are certain rooms where Samus needs to shift the water level in order to proceed.
At a later point in the story, Quiet Robe remotely unlocks a large gate in upper Burenia so that Samus can proceed. She discovers the boss Drogyga, which blocks her path and has its tentacles spread throughout the research site. Upon Drogyga's demise, Samus advances further to Ghavoran.
After the X Parasites are released from Elun, Samus returns to Burenia to find its ecosystem taken over by the X, leading to the appearances of creatures such as Nailuggers and Spittails. She delves deep into the submerged depths of Burenia, eventually using the Diffusion Beam and Grapple Beam to dislodge a large pod-shaped structure and send it crashing down to the ocean floor, breaking open the path to the Gravity Suit.
After Samus acquires the Gravity Suit and takes the elevator to Artaria, the area begins to be frozen along with Artaria and Cataris due to Experiment No. Z-57 blocking the planet's thermal routing system. Because all modes of transport back to Burenia become inoperable between Samus's arrival in Artaria and the thawing of the planet, there is no way to see the frozen Burenia outside the map.
Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers will ambush Samus if she enters their room. However, this encounter is optional and can be avoided.

Metroid Dread Report Volume 8[]
"The bottom half of this marine research site is underwater. Many aquatic creatures residing here can’t be found in other areas."
Adam Briefing[]
"The lower levels of Burenia are mostly submerged. You will need your Gravity Suit to operate there at full efficiency. Abilities such as the Grapple Beam or Space Jump will help you maneuver underwater to an extent. Find them as soon as possible."
