Cavern Beta

Cavern Beta is a room on Phaaze. It appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Description[]

This room is a large, circular chamber with two ledges over a chasm. These ledges contain the majority of the room's ground-based enemies, as well as hardened Phazon crystals that explode upon contact with a Hyper Missile. Falling to the bottom of the room causes damage to Samus. Large growths or rocks are found surrounding the farthest ledge, curving downward and with pure Phazon coursing through them. The ledge that leads out of the room is obstructed by a hardened Phazon crystal. Once destroyed, a set of further ledges will lead to another crystal blocking the exit door.

Development notes[]

The room's internal name is 01_phaaze_shaft_b, as it is the middle portion of the central vertical column that also consists of the Landing Site and the Genesis Chamber. The keyword phaaze indicates the planet Phaaze, and the prefix 01 indicates that this is the first of four main rooms on Phaaze.

The internal naming convention for the main rooms actually treats the entire vertical column as a single room, with the Landing Site, Cavern Beta, and the Genesis Chamber collectively grouped under the prefix 01.
