This article is about the theme that plays in the Phendrana Drifts. For the theme that plays in the Chozo Ruins, see Hall of the Chozo Elders.

Chapel of the Elders,[1] also known as Ice Chapel (アイスチャペル?),[2] is a theme from Metroid Prime. It was composed by Kenji Yamamoto.

Description[]

Chapel of the Elders plays in the Chozo Ice Temple and its associated rooms in the Phendrana Drifts, where Samus Aran acquires the Wave Beam and fights an adult Sheegoth for the first time. The latter room acts as the namesake of its English title in the Nintendo Music app.

Chapel of the Elders is orchestrated similarly to other Chozo temple themes in the game, such as Chozo Shrine, with an ethereal choir melody and ambient synths. It also uses high-pitched instruments heard in other music tracks associated with Phendrana Drifts to evoke the frozen atmosphere. It can be heard here: [1]

While the Chapel of the Elders theme has never been featured in another game in its entirety, the opening notes of its melody are adapted into Matad Jinchozo, a jingle that plays when a Chozo Seal is unlocked in Metroid: Samus Returns. A portion of this theme's melody is also reminiscent of Theme of Super Metroid (Arranged Version) from Super Metroid: Sound in Action, which would later be remixed in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
