Chief Rodney Aran (主任 ロドニー·アラン Shunin Rodonī Aran?) was the father of Samus Aran, and the husband of Virginia Aran. During the attack of Ridley and his Space Pirates at K-2L, he shot the planet's Afloraltite with an automatic weapon, igniting it and causing a massive explosion, wiping out everything on the colony except the Chozo, Samus and Ridley. When encountering the latter for the first time since that event and the PTSD episode that ensued, Samus also hallucinated Rodney as well as Virgina Aran's heads being crushed by Ridley in his hands. His story was told in the Metroid Manga, but he also appeared briefly in a Samus & Joey: Volume 2 flashback.

Other appearances

In-game appearances

Rodney's only in-game appearances were in ending art for Metroid Fusion (Japan only), and a copy of the same image in all versions of Metroid: Zero Mission. He is mentioned in the description (written from his daughter's perspective) for the event match Galactic Avenger in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where Samus kills Ridley and Dark Samus to avenge her parents.

Super Metroid comic

An unnamed man presumed to be Samus's father also appears in Nintendo Power's Super Metroid comic, as part of a flashback story pertaining to Samus's origins, which is told by an elderly Old Bird to Armstrong Houston.

Non-canon warning: This article or section contains information that may not be considered an official part of the Metroid series in the overall storyline by Nintendo.

An earlier character that was implied, but not explicitly stated, to be Samus's father in Blood of the Chozo was "Chief Avram Aran". Given the context, he could represent another member of Samus' family if Avram is considered part of the series canon.

Non-canon warning: Non-canonical information ends here.
