A Chozo Block[1] is an ancient technology present in Metroid: Zero Mission. They are connected to the three Unknown Items and initially appear to be rock-solid, blocking off Samus from continuing on in her Zero Mission. After collecting the respective item, however, the blocks begin to glow and can be destroyed by shooting or bombing them.
The symbol for the item the Chozo Blocks are guarding--either the Plasma Beam, Space Jump or Gravity Suit--can be seen on them. These blocks are only featured in rooms close to the chamber in which the item is located: Plasma Beam blocks in Crateria, Space Jump blocks in Kraid's Lair, and Gravity Suit blocks in Ridley's Lair. When shot, the blocks flash in a cross shape and disappear permanently. The Plasma Beam and Gravity Suit blocks also give way to a Missile Tank and Energy Tank, respectively.
