Chyklings are the mutated offspring of the Dark Chykka.
Description[]
Chyklings are born from the enlarged abdomen of their Darkling parent. As a result of the Dark Energy from the nearby Dark Water being absorbed into the Chykka, its infants are directly born as miniature adults, having jumped over the natural larval stage entirely. These Chyklings are very aggressive and will defend their mother at the cost of their own lives, similar to Fargul Wasps. They will fly in groups toward Samus and damage her on contact, which also kills the Chyklings themselves.
Logistically, Chyklings serve the player to recover missiles and beam ammo during the long Chykka battle. A good strategy for using the Chyklings to recover Light Beam ammo is to use the Darkburst power-up on them. If Samus successfully aims for the center of a Chykling swarm, this can easily recover large amounts of Light Beam ammunition.
If left alone for a while, the Chyklings will explode on their own, suggesting that their lifespans are extremely short due to the mutations caused by the dark elements.

An unused Logbook entry for a Chykling exists within the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc. The creature is labelled as Chykling Swarm and is listed in the Small Flyers section of the Data Network. The model used is the Artifact of Chozo as a placeholder. There is little changes made from the earlier entry; in the Bonus Disc, "dark matter" is capitalized, and "invulnerability" was changed to "durability" in the final.
