Cortex CPU is a room on the Vesper Defense Outpost. It appears in Metroid Prime Hunters.
Description[]
Cortex CPU is a deceptively large room consisting of a central enclosure containing the brain-like Cortex Chamber, which controls the "entire neural ensemble". What this refers to is unclear. The chamber is connected to a network of Morph Ball tunnels that are partially frozen, but still contain a functional lift, Jump Pads, and hazardous obstacles similar to Electric Gates. These take the form of green energy beams that appear and disappear at timed intervals within the tunnel. Contact with one of these beams causes 12 units of damage. The Jump Pads are positioned so that Samus will "Wall Jump" up a mini-shaft within the tunnel. There is a risk of her taking damage from laser beams here, however.
One tunnel leads around another brain encased in a broken glass capsule, resembling Mother Brain and her Control Capsule. The glass and brain itself appear to have suffered damage, as the brain appears to be pulled apart; despite this, nearby systems function normally. The tunnel through which it can be seen leads into a small alcove where the Battlehammer is stored, and the Cortex Chamber (which is not damaged) is placed. To obtain it, Samus must deactivate four Spectral Locks with her Scan Visor. Once done, the Battlehammer will rise through the floor from a lift. Samus can then use it to deactivate a Green Force Field behind her and return from the way she came. A tunnel within the Morph Ball maze leads back into the Compression Chamber.
Connecting rooms[]
- Weapons Complex (via Morph Ball tunnel)
- Compression Chamber (via Morph Ball tunnel)
Items[]
- Missile Expansion
- While Samus is in the tunnels, she must use a Bomb Jump to reach the expansion.
- Battlehammer
- After rolling through several tunnels, Samus must use her Scan Visor to deactivate several panels that block access to the Battlehammer.
Scans[]
- Cortex Chamber
- "CONTROLS THE ENTIRE NEURAL ENSEMBLE BY PROCESSING INPUT FROM THE THALAMIC COIL."
- Green Force Field
- "ANALYSIS INDICATES THE FORCE FIELD IS IMPERVIOUS TO MOST WEAPONS. A HEAVY-DUTY WEAPON MAY DAMAGE ITS GUARD NODE."
