Crashed Ship[1][2][3] is the atmospheric theme that plays in the Frigate Orpheon after its crash in Metroid Prime. It was composed by Kenji Yamamoto and/or Kouichi Kyuma.
Description[]
The theme begins playing once Samus Aran enters the Reactor Core; in the rooms before this, "Crash-Ship-MAE" plays and builds into the theme. This theme continues to play when she enters the Great Tree Hall from the Hydro Access Tunnel, but only until she leaves the water.
In contrast to the eerie and unsettling music that plays in the Frigate Orpheon before its crash, this theme is soothing and calming, completely altering the tone and mood of the sunken ship to suit the new underwater setting. It primarily features piano melodies and harmonies, accompanied by various atmospheric synth effects.
It is titled Wrecked Ship Frigate Orpheon (墜落船フリゲートオルフェオン ) on the Metroid Prime & Fusion Original Soundtracks, or simply Crashed Orpheon (クラッシュオルフェオン ) on the Nintendo Sound Selection Vol. 1: Healing Music album. The theme was later made unlockable in the Soundtrack Gallery of New Play Control! Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Metroid Prime Remastered; in the last of these, it is accompanied by a post-crash image of Cargo Freight Lift to Deck Gamma with a strong red tint. Finally, Crashed Ship is included in the Samus Archives Sound Selection CD, which is packaged with the Special Edition of Metroid: Samus Returns.
