Crawltanks are light defense drones used by the Space Pirates in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Crawltanks can be retrofitted with multiple types of beam weapons, and are able to attach themselves to walls and ceilings. However, they are fragile, and are better suited for patrol and security missions rather than combat missions. Some models can enter Hypermode, making them much more of a threat to those without Phazon enhancement equipment. Crawltanks are often employed alongside the weaker Crawlmines. They appear on almost all areas except for the G.F.S. Valhalla and Phaaze.

They will most often shoot three small orange blasts in quick succession with little accuracy. They will however sometimes charge energy on their back before firing a slightly more powerful single shot directly at their target. When they enter Hypermode they rapidly fire accurate and powerful Phazon shots that are more dangerous than their normal beam attacks.

On the Olympus, an indefinite swarm of Crawltanks and Crawlmines attacks Samus in Xenoresearch Lab. The Zako theme plays during this encounter, which it also does for each Metroid Hatcher battle, and a fight with "Jolly Roger" Drones on Norion.

Logbook entry

Crawltanks are mobile, ground-based defense drones, but are easily destroyed by standard weapon fire. They can be equipped with different cannons, including a Phazon Beam system. They are not built for sustained combat, and are better suited for light patrol and security roles.
