Dairon (ダイロン ) is the third area of planet ZDR in Metroid Dread.
Description and role[]
Dairon is connected to Cataris and Burenia via Shuttles, as well as Artaria, Ferenia, and Ghavoran by Elevators.
Dairon was once a biological research laboratory, where the Mawkin tribe created bioweapons such as Experiment No. Z-57. Many of their subjects can be found contained in stasis tubes, and an unseen specimen bangs against metal panels in the background during Samus Aran's first visits to the area. The site is also home to many robots created by the Chozo. Although Dairon is mostly artificial, some rooms on the left of the area have a naturally aquatic environment because of influence from the ocean around Burenia.
Samus first explores Dairon in search of the Wide Beam. She discovers that because the laboratory has since been abandoned, it has lost power in two sectors, causing a blackout that leaves much of the area in total darkness and covered with what resembles cobwebs. She uses a generator to restore power to the first of these sectors, which turns the lights back on and provides power to Missile Covers – allowing her to access the Chozo Statue that holds the Wide Beam – and Save Stations, but also increases the presence of robots in the previously unpowered sector. To return to Cataris, she is also forced to go through Dairon's E.M.M.I. Zone where she encounters E.M.M.I.-04SB for the first time.
Samus later returns to Dairon to acquire the Bomb, which is located in the second sector suffering from the blackout. She uses a second generator to restore power there as well. In addition to the effects that reactivating the first generator had, this has the negative effects of reactivating Shakernauts and sub-zero containment. She uses a series of Morph Ball launchers to proceed to Burenia, and later returns to Dairon from Burenia to destroy E.M.M.I.-04SB and its Central Unit, re-acquiring the Speed Booster in the process.
A small area around the Elevator that connects Artaria to Dairon consists of rooms with extreme heat, with lava occupying a couple. Next to the Elevator is a Pull Block that Samus can break with the Grapple Beam, giving her access a Morph Ball launcher she can use to return to the main area of Dairon. The background of the large room near the Shuttle to Cataris contains a chute emitting orange light and heat, which in turn leads downward to the largest of these superheated rooms.

Official data[]
Metroid Dread Report Volume 8[]
"A biological research site and home to many robots believed to have been developed using advanced Chozo technology. The power is out in some spots, which makes it difficult to spot enemies. Danger lurks in the shadows."
Adam Briefing[]
"This area, Dairon, appears to be a biological-research laboratory. You have already reactivated one generator in this area. There is another sector above you still suffering from the blackout. Find the next generator and reactivate it."
Trivia[]
- One of the stasis tanks in Dairon contains a creature that vaguely resembles Draygon. Its silhouette is more distinctly visible during the blackout; once power is restored, the tank is frozen over with ice. When extracted from the game files, the creature's model is untextured and lacks details, making its identity difficult to discern.
