A Dark Alpha Splinter was the result of the Ing merging with an Alpha Splinter, turning it into a dark-energy spitting giant Dark Splinter.

Logbook

Morphology: Dark Alpha Splinter. Alpha male of a darkling war pack. Gigantic predator with symbiote-enhanced strength, speed, and armor.

"Splinter alpha males are the first to be targeted for darkling possession. Dark Alpha Splinters grow in strength and durability, making them an even greater threat than normal."

The Battle

The Dark Alpha Splinter in the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Manga.

The Dark Alpha Splinter attacks by strafing around its target, trying to keep it in front of itself. It will then leap forward at high speed, attempting to slam into its prey and stab them with its sharp legs. Immediately after hitting or missing its target, it leaps back to the center of the area and begins strafing again. While moving, it may launch blasts of dark energy to attack from a safe distance.

Samus Aran encountered and killed a Dark Alpha Splinter in Aether's Great Temple. The Ing that possessed it had the Energy Transfer Module, which Samus receives as a reward.

Trivia

• Oddly enough, the Dark Alpha Splinter is actually easier to kill than it's the regular Alpha Splinter. This is because it leaps towards the players exact location, whereas the Alpha Splinter predicted where the player would end up after dodging and leapt at that point.
