Dark Shredders are Dark Aether counterparts of the Shredders.
Description[]
Dark Shredders appear exclusively as enemies during Samus Aran's fight with the Chykka Larva. After the Chykka Larva is defeated and becomes a mature Chykka, Dark Shredders will no longer appear in the Dark Torvus Bog.
Like their Aether counterparts, Dark Shredders emerge from their resting place when agitated and attack by exploding near their enemy. These Darkling plantforms will be disturbed from rest by the Chykka Larva swimming past them, which will prompt the Dark Shredders to rise out of the Dark Water and approach Samus. They will often attack in pairs, though occasionally only one will attack. Like the Aetherian Shredders, though, they can easily be destroyed in a chain-reaction by destroying one with a Missile; the force of such a blast causes the other Shredder to explode as well. Even without destroying them via this method, they are still very weak opponents (even more so than normal Shredders), allowing them to be used for replenishing Samus's energy and ammo.

Dark Shredder
Morphology: Dark Shredder
Darkling-possessed flying plantform. Durable plantform gains strength from Ing possession. Immune to dark water.
The hardy Shredder is a favorite possession target for Ing that dwell near dark water. Dark Shredders can lurk in the venomous liquid indefinitely, patiently waiting for prey. When agitated, it will emerge and begin to fly toward its foe. They are very resilient, but can be eliminated with concentrated weapons fire.
Trivia[]
- Like the Shredder, the Dark Shredder bears a strong resemblance to the Peahats from the Legend of Zelda series.
- Strangely, using the Sunburst (via Sequence Breaking) on a Dark Shredder will cause these creatures to be pushed backwards instead of taking damage.
