Dark World Cliffside plays throughout the Ing Hive. Unlike its light counterpart Sanctuary Fortress, which features a separate theme for the upper level, Dark World Cliffside is the only main area theme for the Ing Hive.
Dark World Cliffside is a variant of a general ambient theme heard through much of Dark Aether in Echoes. Much of this theme consists of dark ambience, heavy drumbeats, and various atmospheric effects, creating a solemn vibe of desolation and hopelessness. Dark World Cliffside also features the same low pan-flute like melody of Dark World Swamp. Dark World Cliffside directly incorporates the high-pitched fast-paced whistling from the Sanctuary Fortress theme, musically tying together the light and dark versions of the area. However, the melody and percussion of Sanctuary Fortress is absent, making Dark World Cliffside feel much darker and emptier compared with the lively Sanctuary Fortress.
