This article is about the theme. For the obstacle, see total darkness.

Darkness,[1] also known as Dark Samus[2] or Theme of Dark Samus,[3] is the theme that accompanies Dark Samus during boss fights against her in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, with a remixed version in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. This is not to be confused with Dark Samus Intro, which plays when Dark Samus is nearby.

Description[]

In Echoes, Darkness is heard during the first two encounters with Dark Samus. However, during the third encounter, the Escape theme is heard instead, because of the fact that Samus Aran fights Dark Samus as Dark Aether collapses around them. Darkness is also one of the songs available for play in the multiplayer mode, unlocked by completing the game. Darkness is included in the Samus Archives Sound Selection CD included with the Special Edition of Metroid: Samus Returns.

Corruption features a brief remixed version of Darkness and Dark Samus Intro that is heard during Dark Samus's attack on Norion and the other Bounty Hunters. A full remix is heard during the final battle with Dark Samus herself on Phaaze. The most notable difference between the Corruption remix and the original Echoes version is a more orchestral instrumentation, particularly with strings, giving it a more sinister and diabolical tone.

Darkness is also remixed again for the battle with Aurora Unit 313. This version is slower and deeper, giving it a style evocative of Mother Brain's theme in Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission.
