The "dead Gigafraug junction" is a room in Sector 2 / Cryosphere. It appears in Metroid: Other M.

Description[]

The room is a partially frozen corridor with several fans blowing air out of ventilation shafts. One of the fans is permanently frozen over and never moves. In between the fans are thin buttresses lining the walls. The junction connects to three other rooms, each through a door located in a short alcove in three of the room's corners. The door leading to an environment with heavy gravity, and ultimately Sector Zero, is located in this room on a higher ledge. It cannot be opened until Samus has the Seeker Missiles later in the story.

Gigafraug remains Cryosphere HD

Samus finds the body.

When Samus enters the room for the first time, a cutscene begins. She sees the corpse of a Gigafraug against the wall and cautiously approaches it. Examining it, she notes in a monologue that it exhibits signs of Metroid predation. However, she quickly dismisses this as impossible, because not only can Metroids not survive in cold environments, they were rendered extinct with the baby's death in her last mission. This is the first sign of Metroids being present on the BOTTLE SHIP, which Samus later finds in Sector Zero; the entrance to which is beside the corpse.

On subsequent visits, two Barisutes inhabit the room. After the credits, the corpse is missing. It was most likely disposed of by the Galactic Federation Army, or the ringleaders to destroy evidence of their work with Metroids.

Samus monologue[]

The creature's corpse showed signs of what looked like Metroid predation, making my mind race. Metroids... here? Impossible. Metroids can't tolerate cold temperatures - they couldn't survive in this environment. Besides, they're extinct. The baby was the last of its kind...
