Doomed Entry, also known as Portal Site[1], is a room in the Dark Agon Wastes. It appears in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Description[]

This mid-sized open room's name stems from the fact that upon entrance from Aether, there is no Portal back. Half of the room is filled with tall platforms in the center making up the room's higher elevation, with Bladepod littering the surrounding area and room walls. On the first visit, only a Dark Preed poses a threat to Samus, although 2 Warrior Ing slide on the left and right walls each and head to the nearby Battleground. Afterward, Phazon litters the floor and Dark Splinters roam the room. A Dark Temple Key is placed on a ledge in this room. One of the platforms in the middle of the room is controlled by a Lift Crystal, hidden behind a bright Luminoth bust. Its Aether equivalent is the Command Center.

In the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc a cutscene in this room plays Samus's first arrival into Dark Aether. she is then taught to use the Light Crystals and Light Beacon to travel safely throughout the dark lands. This scene and tutorial messages were moved to Portal Site in the final. The room also possess a different visual layout, such as a more rocky appearance. The hole filled ceiling has not been added yet, and the Light Lift Crystal isn't present, though it is still possible to reach the top portion of the room if one stands on top of a Bladepod, which are unscannable. No creatures besides the dead Commandos and the unscannable Bladepods are present, and no objects exist on the upper floors of the room. All doors except for the door leading to Oasis Access are locked.

Development Data[]

This room's internal name is 07_sand_alamoportalobservation_dark. The platform with the lift crystal is called Dark Beam platform. The Warrior Ing are referred to as Puddle only Ing, due to their role. The destructible Luminoth head is named Lumi Head White.

Trivia[]

  • Upon first visit, 2 Warrior Ing in puddle form can be spotted travelling along the the walls heading into Double Path; one on the left wall and one behind the right platform. It is likely the creatures were heading toward the Battleground, where a Dark Agon Temple key was being held. It can be difficult to spot the mobile puddles due to the low light levels within the room. They can be shot at but cannot be killed. The Dark Visor (via Sequence Breaking) cannot highlight these creatures.
  • It is possible to skip firing at the Light Lift Crystal if Samus uses a dead Pirate Commando body to perform a Slope Jump.
