An Edge Attack[1] is an attack in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Description[]
The Edge Attack is performed by pressing the attack button while hanging off an edge. All characters, including Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Ridley, and Dark Samus, use various Edge Attacks. When performed, the fighter will climb back onto the stage, while attacking any close opponents. This is primarily used in order to pre-empt any attacks by opponents that could KO the fighter.
In Super Smash Bros., Melee and Brawl, Samus and Zero Suit Samus's Edge Attacks change if their damage percentage is over 100%. They will perform a different attack which is often slower, but does slightly increased damage to opponents. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, the Edge Attacks do not change regardless of damage percentage for all characters.
Edge Attacks[]
Samus and Dark Samus[]
In Super Smash Bros., Samus does a kick with her right leg. If her damage is over 100%, she slowly picks herself up, leans on her Arm Cannon and punches with her left hand. Both attacks deal 6% damage.
In Melee and Brawl, Samus climbs back onto the stage with a kick dealing 10% damage. If her damage is over 100%, she will climb onto the stage and punch with her Arm Cannon, but it still only deals 10% damage. The attacks deal 10% in Melee; in Brawl the kick deals 8% from the right leg and 6% from the left, and 10% with the Arm Cannon thrust attack.
In 3DS, Wii U and Ultimate, when climbing, Samus will sweep with her legs. This attack deals 7% damage in the former two and 9% in the latter. Dark Samus, as Samus's Echo Fighter in Ultimate, has the same Edge Attack and it deals 9% damage as well.
Zero Suit Samus[]
Zero Suit Samus in Brawl will climb up and perform a low spinning kick forward dealing 8% damage. If hers is over 100%, she will get up slower and punch, dealing 10%.
In 3DS and Wii U, Zero Suit Samus performs a low-angled, one-legged dropkick while climbing up. This attack deals 7% damage.
Ridley[]
In Ultimate, Ridley's Edge Attack sees him climb up the ledge and perform a claw swipe, dealing 10% base damage.
