The English language is a mode of communication in both the real world and the Metroid series. It is mainly spoken by humans, but some other species, such as Phrygisians, Elfin, Simians and Ceratopsids are seen speaking it, and do so quite well. However, races such as the Luminoth and Alimbics do not seem to speak it, as their Lore is always written in their languages and not English, and as such must be translated with the Translator Module.
The Chozo and Space Pirates know English, albeit only in manga and comics; their Lore in the Prime series is written in their languages. However, the player can hear the words "Evacuate immediately" in English announced onboard the Orpheon, prior to its self-destruct sequence, suggesting that the Pirates know English in the actual Metroid Prime game. On a similar note, although Raven Beak is only shown to speak in his native tongue on-screen, it is implied that he was also capable of speaking English due to his posing as ADAM for an indeterminable amount of time prior to his final encounter with Samus Aran aboard Itorash.
Trivia[]
- English text is mainly found in Galactic Federation facilities in Metroid Fusion, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid: Other M, and is the only kind ever found there. In the real world, most of the time, there are translations of text in other languages underneath it, but this never occurs with alien languages in Metroid.
- The Omega Pirate is the first Pirate to apparently speak English in any Metroid game. Every time it summons Trooper Pirates, it seems to shout the words "Finish her".
- In Metroid Prime 3, Space Pirates of all varieties will occasionally speak Samus' name. This typically occurs when they are ignorant of her presence, but they will also exclaim it if they spot her.
