The Environmental Test Floor is a room in the experimental simulated desert area of Sector 3 / Pyrosphere. It appears in Metroid: Other M.

Description[]

The Environmental Test Floor may have been used to test the desert environment of the Pyrosphere. It is located outside of a large tower with the Desert Refinery, "Sand Tower summit" and "desert cave" inside.

Inhabiting this room are two Dessgeegas and a pair of Sandfang. The room itself is an open space with a sand floor, and multiple dunes surrounded by protruding, jagged rocks and sections of rebar. Toward the back of the Test Floor is a large, holographic cliff wall, with a door to get inside the tower being on a platform higher up, but initially concealed by the hologram. Samus is not required to engage the enemies in the room, but doing so will allow her to navigate without interference.

Near the back wall is a crane embedded within rocks in the ground. A Grapple Point is attached to the crane, which can be rotated by firing Missiles at its back end. To leave the room, Samus must rotate the crane until she is able to grapple to a high walkway on the left side of the room. At the end of this walkway is a holographic generator. When used, the cliff face over the door disappears, and the door unlocks. Removing the hologram also reveals that the Test Floor is within an indoor facility, as the open sky is replaced with a ceiling. Once the hologram is gone, Samus can rotate the crane so that she is able to grapple to the exit door.
