Excelcion is an arctic planet in the Bermuda System. Originally a warm planet with a wealth of natural liquid and mineral resources, a meteor impact 20 years prior to the events of Metroid Prime: Federation Force caused extreme climate change and plunged the planet into an ice age. It was the location of a Galactic Federation mining outpost that was abandoned after the environmental shift and subsequent migrations of dangerous wildlife.
In M04: Containment, the Federation Force is tasked with trapping four Ice Titans on the planet to be transported for study. Other bioforms on this planet include Ice Shriekbats, Eyeflyers, Ice Geemers, Ice Hoppers and their Nest, in addition to Space Pirates who have taken over the abandoned base.

According to our records, savage wild xenoforms from the polar regions migrated to every corner of the planet and made it too dangerous to continue mining operations safely.
