The Federation mark (連邦マーク^?),^[1] alternatively translated as Federation logo,^[2] is the official insignia of the Galactic Federation, and is used on many Federation-designed technologies.

The design of the actual symbol has varied over the years.

Early depictions[]

The Magazine Z manga depicted the symbol as an oval with a black almond-shaped eye in the middle and three lines on either side of it, as well as one below it. In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the symbol resembles a Federation Marine armorsuit's visor, colored yellow.

Metroid: Other M onward[]

Metroid: Other M depicts it as a gold cross over a blue circle, with 3 lines encircling it. It can be seen on the interface of the Bioweapon Research Center computer and on the chestplate of the Power Suits worn by the 07th Platoon. The latter is not unlike the green arrow symbol on the chestplate of Samus Aran's basic Power Suit.

This design was reused in Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread, making it the current canon symbol of the Federation. In Federation Force, it is part of the logo. In Samus Returns, it appears on the Samus Data Screen. In Dread, it appears during the introduction cutscene, as part of the UI over the footage of an X Parasite on ZDR, and on the side of the E.M.M.I. transport ship. It also appears again on the Samus Data Screen to denote a file that has completed the game, and it is present in Chozo Archive 07, beside a holographic image of an E.M.M.I., a Federation DNA extracting machine.
