The "Missile Tank tunnel" is a room in Norfair. It appears in Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission.

Description[]

In both games, this is a corridor of platforms suspended over lava with a dead-end, and is found on the far left side of Norfair. It is accessible from a shaft, which in Zero Mission has an elevator to Crateria.

In Metroid, the room is partly constructed of burgundy-colored rock, with a section of metal architecture near the end. This backs up against a wall of purple bubble-like material. The room is rather forgiving platforming-wise, unlike other rooms over acid or lava, as the platforms are low and there are small gaps in between them, making it less likely that Samus will fall into the lava. A Missile Tank is found on a pedestal amongst the metal architecture.

In Zero Mission, the room's appearance has been slightly updated, removing the bubble-like material at the end and setting the room entirely in a cave. An Air Hole spawning Gamets has been added. The platforms are now man-made (or perhaps of Chozo origin) and are raised higher than in the original game. Its basic purpose, of containing an optional Missile Tank, has not changed.

This room is no longer accessible in Super Metroid.

Metroid Prime: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide[]

019 ROCKET POWER (pg. 133)
"The area to the left of the Norfair elevator is full of Missile Tanks. Explore the upper corridor first. After you collect one Missile Tank, continue on to the left end of the corridor and use Bombs to blast through the wall. Drop to the lower corridor and move to the right, to another Missile Tank."

Metroid: Zero Mission: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide[]

046 missile tank (pg. 39)
"After you return to Norfair, drop from the elevator into the proximity of the blue hatch. After you land, grab the ledge to the left, squeeze through a tight passage and follow the path to an out-of-the-way Missile Tank."

The "Rocket Power" passage from the Prime guide, in its walkthrough for the original Metroid, is reused for this guide's Metroid walkthrough.
