Floating-eye sensors[1] (メーアイ mēai )[2] are a security mechanism found in Chozodia during Metroid: Zero Mission, specifically in the interior of the Chozo Ruins.
Description[]
The sensors are eyes that seemingly slide across walls, ascending and descending while shining a harmless yellow beam that can detect intruders. They pose a major threat to Samus Aran during her early exploration of the temple in her Zero Suit: they are completely immune to her Paralyzer, and if they detect her, the Pirate Alarm System will be triggered, causing numerous Space Pirates to swarm in on her location. In addition, the sensors will begin to fire energy blasts at her.
The floating-eye sensors are considerably less threatening when Samus acquires the Fully Powered Suit, allowing her to use her full arsenal to easily destroy them, though their energy blasts will pierce through her Screw Attack.
Floating-eye sensors are found in "eye ascension" and the "eye pit".
Trivia[]
- The sensors are similar to Gadoras and the Eye mechanism in Super Metroid.
- If Chozodia is entered early via hacking, the sensors will be invulnerable to all attacks before defeating the Ruins Test. Conversely, if the Zero Suit is hacked in after obtaining the Fully Powered Suit, one charged Paralyzer shot can destroy one of them.
