The "Flooded Sanctuary" is a large room in Ferenia. It appears in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
This room is entered immediately after arriving in Ferenia via a Shuttle from Ghavoran. It is a large chamber with a lower half that is filled with water, hence the name.
The entrance is an automatic door with a spinning mechanism, which opens when approached. In immediate view from the entrance is a large, raised platform with a curved stairwell leading up to it in the background. Chozo statuary, a golden statue of a mysterious tusked creature, and tapestries bearing the Mawkin symbol are present in the background as well. Above the platform is a walkway with a narrow tunnel, partially lined with Pit Blocks. On either end of it are curved walls with windows showing the exterior of the Ferenia facility. Above Samus in the tunnel is a pair of Bomb Blocks; this is part of a notorious puzzle to obtain a Missile+ Tank (see below).
An alternate entrance from another room leads Samus into a concealed area with a Chozo Statue. The statue holds the Space Jump, a necessary upgrade for Samus's further progression. Once she collects it, Samus must drop into the flooded portion of the room, using the Grapple Beam to pull herself to blue magnetic strips. This is her only means of ascending in the water without the Gravity Suit. At the top, there is a Breakable Organic Block she can destroy to open up part of the floor in the sanctuary's main chamber, allowing her to return there.
In the background of this room's upper-right section, there is a faintly visible fresco that depicts Zebesian Space Pirates. It is a replica of part of a fresco near the western elevator to Dairon, depicting Zebesians standing in line, with one forced to kneel before a Chozo Soldier.
Connecting rooms[]
- "Shuttle to Ghavoran" (via automatic door)
- "Glyph shaft" (via 3 Power Beam Doors, one being one-way)
- "Niche 1" (via tunnel)
- "Ferenia west shaft" (via tunnel)
- "Network Station" (via Power Beam Door)
Inhabitants[]
After the X are released, one of the Rodotuks will move to the other wall when killed, and its X will materialize into a Rodomithon-X. The enemies in this room have an increased respawn rate.
Items[]
- Space Jump
- Requires Storm Missiles. Samus must access the lower portion of the sanctuary from Escue's region of Ferenia. It is in the hands of a Chozo Statue.
- Missile Tank
- Requires Cross Bombs. In the chamber leading to the Space Jump, Samus must jump up to a ceiling chain of Bomb Blocks, and lay a Cross Bomb.
- Missile+ Tank
- Samus must run into the room from the Shuttle to Ghavoran and Spin Jump up to the platform with the Speed Booster active, then quickly Wall Jump off the wall she is approaching up to the higher walkway. She must Slide into the tunnel, her speed carrying her over the Pit Blocks, and then crouch to save a Shinespark on the other end. Samus must then roll back into the tunnel, destroy the Bomb Blocks and quickly Ball Spark up a short shaft through a pair of Boost Blocks. If successful, Samus will reach an alcove in the ceiling with three birds that fly away, and the Missile+ Tank on the left.
