The "fresco hall" is a large room in Ferenia's E.M.M.I. Zone. It appears in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
This chamber is the first room in Ferenia's E.M.M.I. Zone. Immediately upon entry, there is a Shutter Platform in the way, which closes if stepped on. The Flash Shift must be used to circumvent it. A Morph Ball tunnel is present underneath the platform, but is blocked by an E.M.M.I. Valve and therefore unable to be explored at first. In the background are two storage crates and two hanging cables, which sway slightly. One of the cables hangs to the floor and extends to the side wall, with the hanging portions of the cables casting a shadow on it.
Past the Shutter Platform is a large open chamber, with three Autool spawners above the rightmost wall. In the background are two streams of water flowing from open pipes. A bridge extends from the back wall into the chamber, with the very end of it usable as a platform. This portion is separated from the rest of the bridge by a barricade. Directly underneath the bridge, the floor slopes into two groups of four Pit Blocks, which lead to another chamber below.
Here, the water can be seen flowing downstream off of three ledges. The two streams combine into a third in the center of these ledges, flowing past a statue of a bowing Chozo. In the playable space, a wall with a fresco is present; after a cutscene, it is destroyed, with its rubble visible on the floor. Past it is a small zigzag-shaped alcove with two hanging cables and an elongated one, a pair of canisters and multiple large pipes in the background. This leads into the tunnel with the E.M.M.I. Valve. The sound of the waterfall is silenced in this portion of the room.
Role[]
This is the site of Samus Aran's first encounter with E.M.M.I.-06WB. When Samus enters Ferenia's E.M.M.I. Zone and drops through the Pit Blocks, she lands in an iconic pose and immediately notices the fresco. Running up to it, Samus sees its engravings of the Chozo who attacked her earlier, the symbol seen throughout Ferenia, and dying Chozo. Glaring at the fresco, her hand suddenly flares up with purple energy, although she does not appear to notice this.
Before she can react, Samus is stunned by a purple, electrical projectile that hits her through the fresco wall. As she staggers to her feet, E.M.M.I.-06WB rushes through the wall, destroying it and grabbing Samus. Before it can kill her, it is remotely disabled, and it releases Samus, who falls to the floor. As she remains seated, she threatens a Chozo figure that suddenly appears. The Chozo bows to her, putting Samus at ease. After a transition, Samus leaves this room with the Chozo off-screen and follows him into his chamber.
Should Samus die while fighting the Robot Chozo Soldier in "Quiet Robe's chamber", a checkpoint places her back in this room, prior to the cutscene. With the E.M.M.I. deactivated by Quiet Robe, it stands exactly where it was left, and the E.M.M.I. Valves disappear so that Samus can use the tunnels to continue through Ferenia.
Once reactivated, E.M.M.I.-06WB oddly does not patrol this room despite having continued access to it in the form of E.M.M.I. Valves.
Fresco[]
The fresco depicts Raven Beak on the left, giving an order to his Chozo Soldiers, of which seven are depicted holding spears. Four Thoha Chozo are depicted in blue robes upside down, appearing to be falling or perhaps dead. The Mawkin insignia is present in multiple places on the fresco, which is etched with three Chozo phrases: "Hadar sen olmen" ("Power is everything"), "Ura menke uramahar turuki nupha" ("We honor[1] our turuki nupha"),[note 1] and "Ili muhar ninta ura" ("The muhar ninta us").[note 1]
The fresco was first seen in the Development History presentation, and again in Glimpse of Dread.
