Fusion attack

A Warrior Ing launches at Samus, and misses.

Warrior Ing are capable of performing a fusion attack[1]. When battling an enemy, it may begin to charge energy of varying colors, before vaulting towards the enemy and covering them in its liquid form, dealing damage as long as it remains on the individual; Samus Aran's vision will also be slightly impaired due to the substance on her visor.

This attack is seemingly an alternate method that the Ing use to convert individuals into Darklings, as it corresponds with the manner in which the Quadraxis becomes possessed by covering it with the Ing's liquefied bodies prior to entering it, though Samus Aran is immune to the transformation due to the Energy Transfer Module she carries in her Power Suit during Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. The Warrior Ing eventually removes all traces of itself from Samus by evaporating into a black fog and traveling a short distance away before reverting to its liquid and solid forms. Even if Samus remains inside a Safe Zone during the attack, it has no effect on the Warrior Ing during the lunge nor while the creature is liquefied on her suit. If Samus evades its lunge, it will impact the ground and liquefy, moving aside before it coalesces into its solid form again.

Hunter Ing have their own variation of the fusion attack. Before they lunge at Samus, they become intangible in order to phase through solid objects and enter her body. This immobilizes her and scrambles her visor for a short moment before they leave her body.

Metroid Fusion MP2 guide ref

"The Warrior Ing in Oasis Access might try to use a fusion attack-a move in which the Ing launches itself at you and covers your suit in ooze. As long as the gunk is on you, you'll take damage."

The heading for this description in the guide is titled "Metroid Fusion", in reference to the game of the same name.

Trivia[]

  • The Ing possessing individuals by enveloping them with their liquid form has been witnessed only within their native environment. On Aether, they always resort to their gaseous form to accomplish the same result.
  • The creature's temporary immunity to Safe Zones during the attack is akin to how the Ing are able to tolerate Aether's atmosphere for a brief time while in their black fog form before needing to quickly invade a body.
