Galactic Federation Crates are used by the Federation to hold resources. Many were taken to planet Aether during the Aether incident. They can be destroyed by a series of Beam shots or a single charged one. They are extremely common and usually hold Phazon energy units or Missiles. In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, these crates appear on the G.F.S. Olympus and on Norion. They now have a chance of containing Ship Missile Ammunition when destroyed.
There are also Heavy Galactic Federation Crates, which are larger, have red highlights (in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes) and are sturdier. It takes more than one Charge Beam blast to destroy them, and they often contain more and better supplies than their smaller counterparts.
