Galactic Federation Crates are used by the Federation to store resources. They can generally be destroyed by several Beam shots, a single charged shot or Missile, or by a Power Bomb. They are extremely common and usually hold Energy Capsules, Missile Ammo, Beam Ammo (in Echoes), or in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Phazon Units or Ship Missile Ammunition.
Samus Aran encounters many of them in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes because Squad Bravo took them to the Temple Grounds during the Aether incident. In Corruption, these crates appear on the G.F.S. Olympus, on Norion, and on the G.F.S. Valhalla.
Variations[]
There are also Heavy Galactic Federation Crates, which are larger, have red highlights (in Echoes only) and are sturdier. It takes more than one Charge Beam blast to destroy them, and they often contain better supplies than their smaller counterparts.
A Galactic Federation Ordnance Crate is a special container. It is used to protect personal, and possibly explosive, objects. To date, only one has been seen in Echoes, where it is present in the GFMC Compound and guards a replacement Missile Launcher for Samus Aran. It is a large black box with pulsating yellow accents.
A Secure Galactic Federation Crate is another type. These are also seen solely on Aether, specifically in the Industrial Site. They are indestructible, being "made up of the strongest materials in the cosmos." Their strong composition suggests they are used to guard very important materials.

Galactic Federation Crate
Galactic Federation Crates have a complex lock system, but are lightly armored.
Galactic Federation Crates are used to store basic supplies. Because they are lightly armored, the crates are unable to withstand basic weapon fire. Destroy them to discover their contents.
Trivia[]
- In the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc, all but one crate in the Central Mining Station is labelled as a Galactic Federation cargo crate, and both large and small crates use the same scan. These crates appear identical to Space Pirate storage crates but very strangely, identical looking Galactic Federation crates sit adjacent to the one lone Pirate crate.
- In Metroid Dread, the E.M.M.I. (robots of Galactic Federation design) were also stated to be made out of identical indestructible material as a Secure Galactic Federation crate.
