The Genesis (ジェネシス Jeneshisu^?),^[1] also known as Alcoon,^[2] is an enemy seen only in Metroid Fusion.

Description[]

The Genesis is a creature that crawls through narrow ducts in the ceiling and floor. It is also depicted crawling on the ceiling in official artwork, although this does not occur in gameplay. While it does not actively attack Samus Aran, it is constantly drooling acidic saliva that can drip onto her and damage her Fusion Suit. Genesis are fairly resilient, taking two Power Bombs to kill, but can be easily obliterated by using the Wave Beam during later encounters.

They are found as X Parasite hosts in two places aboard the Biologic Space Laboratories research station: the area behind the Sub-Zero Containment on the Main Deck, and in two corridors near the Tourian-like area of Sector 1 (SRX). The X Parasites released from a pair of defeated Genesis in Sector 1 will combine and transform into Gold Space Pirates; when the Gold Space Pirates are defeated, a Special Hatch will open.

Development notes[]

The Genesis has two unused animations: one in which its body moves up and down, and where it flips in midair as it leaps from the floor to the ceiling.^[3]

Trivia[]

The method of locomotion and biological appearance of the Genesis is likely an homage to the titular creature of the Alien film series, as the Metroid franchise has been heavily inspired by the Alien franchise.
Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide incorrectly refers to the Genesis as an Alcoon, despite the two species apparently being unrelated and having very different appearances. The guide also claims that they spit fire, rather than passively drooling acid.^[2]
