The "geothermal bridge" is a room in Artaria. It appears in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
The room is set in a massive geothermal cavern filled with lava. While the outer area including the visitable magma below is superheated, this glass bridge is insulated, making it safe for traversal. The glass is fogged up from the heat outside, creating an almost blue tint. At the entrance to the room is a small hallway with four rectangular windows on the left wall (the background from the game's perspective) and a pane of glass on the right wall (in the foreground), sealed with three supports that resemble the Roman numeral for 2.
Within the bridge itself, the cavern can be seen extending into the background. As Samus nears the exit, the camera zooms out to show the full room. The bridge's notable features include constantly flowing embers, jagged rocks, splashes from lava in the background, and a bright glow suggesting the end of a tunnel. The central feature is a large absorption port from the ceiling; this is where thermal energy is extracted by a processing system in Cataris, which then routes it to the rest of ZDR. The generator absorbs this energy in the form of a large lava plume that spins slowly like a tornado, although the port does not move with it.
The bridge is held up by seven support "claws" attached to the ceiling. Underneath the bridge is a flat rock ledge on the left, and two flame jets that release exhaust at regular intervals, making noise as they do so. Their noise, and that of the thermal port, is silenced in the entrance hall. The underside of the bridge is a blue magnetic strip, although it is not marked as one on the Map.
Magma keeps the surrounding cave superheated during the cooldown of ZDR late into Samus's mission. However, this bridge's insulation allows it to freeze over anyway, and since Experiment No. Z-57 has stopped the flow of thermal energy, the "plume" of lava is gone. The lava flow resumes once the creature has been annihilated.[1]

Trivia[]
- This room resembles the "lava cavern" in Metroid: Other M, which also featured an enclosed glass bridge over lava. Unlike this bridge however, that one was destroyed.
- If a Power Bomb is used while inside the bridge, enemies from the room below will be killed, with the Power Bomb's attracting effect sucking their X Parasites in.
- Jack Mathews, the technical lead engineer of the Metroid Prime series, mentioned this room as a favorite of his and said its background detail would have been unachievable on Nintendo 3DS.[2]
