Ghavoran (ガヴォラン ) (pronounced /ˈgævəɹən/[1]) is an underground jungle below the surface of ZDR and is the fifth area Samus explores (without sequence breaking) in Metroid Dread. There are many ancient creatures and plants throughout Ghavoran. The Pulse Radar, Super Missile, and Spin Boost can be acquired from ordinary ability pickups. The Ice Missile is acquired from defeating EMMI-05IM, the area's EMMI, and the Cross Bomb is acquired from defeating Golzuna and its Core-X.
Description[]
Although it is located underground, Ghavoran is one of the locations closest to the surface of the planet. Therefore, sunlight is able to shine through the cavern ceilings and give life to an underground forest. Although the Mawkin have built some architecture and statues here, Ghavoran has been largely untouched by the Chozo civilization, allowing its native fauna and flora to naturally flourish in this ancient ecosystem. Many plantforms can be found here, including Enky, Planteater, and a massive tree with retractable pink leaves. There are also ponds of water.
Ghavoran is connected to nearly every area of ZDR, except for Artaria and Itorash. There are Shuttles to Elun, Ferenia, and Hanubia; Elevators to Dairon and Burenia; and Teleportals to Burenia and Cataris.
After Samus Aran's first visit to Ghavoran, she heads to Elun, where the quarantined X Parasites are released by Raven Beak. The X immediately infest Ghavoran and infect all of its fauna, such as turning Yampas into Yamplot-X or mutating the docile Muzby species into the more dangerous Goliath, Bigkran-X, and Golzuna. This quickly becomes apparent upon Samus's return to Ghavoran.
Ghavoran contains one E.M.M.I. Zone, patrolled by E.M.M.I.-05IM; it is initially disabled by Quiet Robe, but is later reactivated after an X possesses his corpse. The Ice Missile is acquired after Samus destroys the E.M.M.I. and its Central Unit, and this upgrade becomes critical for exploring Ghavoran by freezing the plants. Samus also acquires the Super Missile, Spin Boost, and Pulse Radar by exploring the area, as well as obtaining the Cross Bomb by absorbing Golzuna's Core-X.

Official data[]
Metroid Dread Report Volume 8[]
- Ghavoran
- "An underground forest area very close to the surface. Sunlight peeks through from above. Native flora and fauna abound, including many plant-like beings and ancient creatures."
- ~Transmission from the Dev Team~
- "Civilization has left less of an imprint upon Ghavoran compared to other areas of ZDR, and the area’s appearance has thus been able to evolve in a natural way since ancient times. There are sections with small platforms that require continuous jumping, as well as partially submerged locations. Samus will have to use all her abilities and talents to the fullest when taking on this area."
Adam Briefing[]
"Samus, you are approaching the surface. This area, Ghavoran, appears to be an underground forest."
Trivia[]
- The Chozo Archives implies that a Corpius originally inhabited Ghavoran, where it was hunted by the Mawkin Chozo. Whether it is the same one fought as a boss in Artaria is unclear.
