The Ground Shocker[1] is a species found on ZDR in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
The Ground Shocker resembles a mollusk or jellyfish, although it is found floating through the air of Ferenia instead of dwelling underwater. It has peach-hued skin covered by a rough blackened texture on its main body, and several small tentacles dangling underneath. The Ground Shocker usually envelops its body in a blue electric field that protects it from most attacks, although it can be easily penetrated by the Screw Attack and Storm Missiles. When Samus Aran approaches, the Ground Shocker extends one long tentacle to the floor and electrifies the entire platform beneath it, damaging Samus if she touches the platform; however, doing so dispels its own electricity and leaves it vulnerable to other attacks.
Ground Shockers cannot be encountered before the X Parasites are released from Elun and turn Ferenia into their hive; therefore, it is uncertain whether they are a naturally-occurring species. However, it appears that the X use Ground Shocker DNA to enhance other bioforms that they infect, such as turning Gooplots into Gooshockers and Quetzoas into Quetshockers; these hybrid creatures have the same skin texture and electric fields as the Ground Shocker. This is strongly evidenced by an in-game scenario where an X-infected Quetzoa and Ground Shocker will merge to form a Quetshocker.[2]
One Ground Shocker takes up residence in Quiet Robe's chamber on later visits. When killed, its X flees Samus and turns into a Takumaku.
Trivia[]
- The Ground Shocker's platform-electrifying ability makes it very similar in behavior to the Electric Moheek from Metroid: Samus Returns.
