A Gun Socket (as named in the level objects code) is a device encountered twice in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. As the name implies, it is a socket terminal into which Samus must insert her Arm Cannon, typically for the purposes of uploading or unlocking something. It takes the shape of an X, and rotates once left to a cross shape when the Arm Cannon interfaces with it. Once the Cannon is retracted, the socket reverts to an X shape. Samus' Cannon rumbles while it is uploading, with energy appearing as digital squares spreading across the socket in a back and forth motion.

In her mission to SkyTown, Elysia, Samus is called upon by the Galactic Federation to administer a vaccine to the floating city's Aurora Unit 217, who still requires it after the corruption virus infected most of the Units on the network. The vaccine cannot be physically used and must be uploaded via a Gun Socket below 217's Aurora Chamber. Before she can do this, however, she must destroy a number of Tinbots that ambush her.

With all known Leviathan Seeds destroyed, Samus discovers a Leviathan that had been converted into a Battleship before it could reach its intended destination. Hoping to use this Battleship to open a wormhole to the source of all Phazon, Samus first has to acquire a code that will grant her access to the Battleship's controls. Once again, a Gun Socket is used to upload the code.
