The "Headquarters observation hall" is a room at Galactic Federation Headquarters. It appears in Metroid: Other M during flashbacks and the ending cutscene, and is not playable.

Description[]

The hall is long and has a domed ceiling, and it appears to be situated on a high floor in the headquarters building. It features simple architecture, including a glossy floor with a triangular pattern. The right wall features a window overlooking the city outside. Lining the middle of the room are dividers, the purpose of which is unknown. It is possible that they are benches, although their short height makes this unlikely. Along the left wall is a large pair of doors, leading to an unknown area.

Role[]

This room is first witnessed during the flashback Samus has after she defeats the Brug Mass and is accepted into the 07th Platoon's mission. A younger Samus, then a member of the Galactic Federation Army paces through this hall quicker than several other humans passing through it. At one point, she stops and proceeds to the window, placing her hand on the glass as she watches the goings on in the city outside. Her mood in this scene indicates that she is uneasy about something, but why this may be is not explored. After a moment, Samus leaves.

Following the incident on the BOTTLE SHIP, Samus is seen at this hall once again in the present day. She approaches the window, reflecting on Adam's sacrifice, and accepts that it was the right decision. Vowing not to grieve for him, she gives a thumbs up sign to him for the first time, in case he is watching over her. Anthony Higgs then appears and gives a thumbs down. In a monologue, Samus realizes that Anthony understands her as much as Adam did, and playfully punches him. He exaggerates a reaction before bidding her goodbye. Samus ties up her ponytail - mirroring the endings of Metroid II and Super Metroid, where she would undo it - and proceeds to walk down the hall, stopping for a moment to look out the window again. Giving a slight smile, she continues walking.

Samus monologues[]

Note: These are parts of monologues that are heard when Samus is shown in this room.

Past[]

And I was angry. I felt that if I let my guard down, I would easily be broken. And beyond that, I was scared. But even in the naivete of my youth, I could see in Adam's joking manner how close he felt to me.

Adam knows my past. And he knows me better than anyone else.

Confession time. Because I was so young when I lost both of my parents, there's no question I saw Adam as a father figure. When I rebelled against him, I knew I could get away with it. And his paternal compassion in the face of my rebellion reinforced the special bond I felt with him.

I understood well that chances were slim that I would ever find anyone that understood me like Adam. And yet... When the time came, I still left his side. I was so young. Young and naive...

—Samus

Present[]

I heard Adam's voice in my head, and I knew in my heart that he had made the right decision, just as he had so many years ago. In that moment, I swore not to grieve his death. And for the first time, I gave him a thumbs-up—just in case he was watching over me.

(Anthony appears) His amused expression looked as though he wanted to say something. His face and Adam's swirled together. That last smile as Adam drifted away...
