Hive Portal Chamber is a room in the Ing Hive from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Despite being located next to both the Staging Area and Hive Reactor, it has no doors, but Light Portals instead. Combined with its light counterpart, the Transit Station, the Hive Portal Chamber forms a maze to get the Power Bomb Expansion on Aether.

Upon first visit, immediately as Samus arrives in this room and takes a step forward or back, a large darkling mechanoid smashes through a window and engages Samus into battle. Samus can either fight and defeat the darkling mechanoid or simply ignore it and enter the Light Portal housed behind the it. If the Dark Ingsmasher was ignored, upon returning to the room, it can be seen in a sort of sleep or standby mode near the center of the room next to an Ingworm Cache. The unit is invincible while sleeping as a shield-like aura surrounds its body and will return to battle once Samus fires at it or draws near it. It is possible to ignore this unit completely during Samus's exploration in this room. Once defeated, the Dark Ingsmasher vanishes permanently.

Inhabitants[]

1 Dark Ingsmasher (first visit, subsequent visits if not defeated)
"Mechanism: Dark Ingsmasher
Darkling-possessed assault drone.
Mechanoid target enhanced by Ing possession. Target has darkling weakness to light energy as well."

Scans[]

Spider Ball Track
"System: Spider Ball Track
Magnetic rail system track.
In Morph Ball mode, press and hold R* when close to this type of surface. Use Control Stick to move the Ball along the track. Release R* to disengage from the surface.
CAUTION: A Morph Ball Bomb will briefly disengage the Ball from the track."
Light Portal
Light Portals allow living beings to travel to Aether without being scattered throughout the interdimensional void. They are unstable, however, and only remain viable for limited periods of time. Some can be reactivated, while others vanish forever once they are used."
Ingsmasher missile launcher
"Object scan complete.
Unit is an Ingsmasher missile launcher.
Shoulder-mounted combat system. Fires high-yield explosive missiles."
Ingworm Cache
"The Ingworms wrap their bodies around useful items to protect them. They are defenseless. They are not terribly durable and have no form of attack, hence their assignment as storage bearers by the Horde."

Connecting room[]

Trivia[]

  • The Hive Portal Chamber is one of four rooms in Echoes that does not have a single door or an elevator (it can only be explored using a portal) used to access it, the others being the Ing Windchamber, Hive Summit and Vault Attack Portal.
    • Both this room and the Vault Attack Portal are also adjacent to a dark variant room yet neither cannot be reached from one another directly. In the case of Hive Portal Chamber, it is the only room indirectly adjacent to two Dark Aether rooms.
      • Very curiously however, Staging Area is programmed as a connecting room. This suggests an altered layout within the Ing Hive. Strangely however, the doorway only functions properly if entered from Staging Area's side of the door (Staging Area will oddly not load from the Hive Portal Chamber side of the door, unless Staging Area is currently loaded).
  • If Samus does not move upon entering the room for the first time, she can destroy the window covering the Dark Ingsmasher without triggering the fight. The window is fragile and can be shattered with three Power Beam shots. Upon destroying the window however, the Dark Ingsmasher will commence with battle.
  • It is possible to obtain the Power Bomb Expansion in Transit Station without entering this room, thus making it possible to completely skip the Hive Portal Chamber entirely.
  • During the first visit, a normal Ingsmasher is loaded behind the breakable glass. When the appropriate flag is activated, the Dark Ingsmasher loads onto the spot where the normal Ingsmasher is housed at, with the placeholder model soon rapidly fading out.
    • The Dark Ingsmasher behind the glass will only load if Samus enters the room via the center Portal, even if the activation flag is reached via other entryways. If the flag is triggered but not the fight itself, when Samus re-enters the room from the center portal, the Dark Ingsmasher immediately begins battle.
